Overcoming Depression During Christmas

December 14, 2018

Depression makes the world dark even during the holidays.

I’ve always loved the beauty of Christmas. The lights, the music, the decorations remind me of the message of hope: Luke 2:11 – 14

The angel said, “Behold I bring you good tidings of great job. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.”(ESV)

However, not everyone rejoices this time of year. And if you are not happy, the joyful sounds of the season can grate on your nerves.

That’s why I believe God put Ps 88 in the Bible.

For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.

I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength,

like one set loose among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, like those whom you remember no more, for they are cut off from your hand.

You have put me in the depths of the pit, in the regions dark and deep Ps. 88: 3 – 5

Depression. That may describe your mood, and you may have a good reason. Maybe you have lost someone dear to you. That first Christmas hurts.

Maybe your own health is declining. Or perhaps you lost your job and feel alone. How can you handle depression over the holidays when everyone else is happy?

Today I have Dr.Michelle Bengstron, and she has answers for battling depression.
