How to Teach Your Kids to be Thankful without Losing Your Mind

Thankful

Being Thankful. That’s a huge topic I know I need to work on because I find it easier to complain than to be thankful.  I’m glad we have a day set aside to call us to remember our blessings because I need the reminder.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Did you hear those words? In all circumstances. I have a difficult time giving thanks for the good ones.

But did you know it’s rather dangerous not to give thanks.

Look at what the first chapter of Romans has to say:

Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

If you follow the logic, see where it ends up:

“Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity.”

That’s not a place I want to go.

So, pretty important. But I have a hard time giving thanks. How can I teach my kids that along with all the other things I have to teach them? I’ve heard mothers say they want to encourage that, but sometimes they wonder if they will lose their mind trying to teach it.

Becky Harling is my guest. She’s written a Thirty Day Praise Challenge for Parents. Listen to her advice.
