Secrets of Forgiving Yourself and Having Good Relationships

Do you have a tough time forgiving yourself?

Several years ago my son and my husband were sparring in a karate class, and my son threw a punch that broke his father’s nose. My son has a very sensitive nature, and son he felt so badly that we had to keep the story under wraps while my husband recovered from surgery to repair the break. The situation was an accident, and yet we knew our son well enough to know he would not forgive himself if we said anything.

We women have that problem too. Our hearts are so sensitive that makes us unable to let go of our own mistakes even though others forgave us. I include myself in this too, because I need to see myself as God does rather than expect perfection. (Oh, how I long to be perfect!)

2 Corinthians 2:7 so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be by excessive sorrow. (2 Cor. 2:7 ESV) overwhelmed

In these verses, the Apostle Paul talks about someone being overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. The Apostle had judged him for his sin, and the church had done appropriate church discipline. The man stopped sinning but could not seem to let go of his sorrow.

Sarah Sundin tells a similar story in her newest book.
